Chris Emmons has more than 30 years of banking experience in New England, joining Gorham Savings Bank as its 12th president and CEO in 2003. He has assembled a talented and experienced executive team, bringing great depth of expertise in financial services to the organization. Under Emmons’ tenure, Gorham Savings Bank more than doubled in asset size, eclipsing $1 billion in 2017, while growing from six to 13 branch locations and, perhaps most notably, adding the bank’s newly renovated India Street location on Portland’s waterfront – anchoring its position on the peninsula and in the business community. Emmons has led during a period of significant change, including the bank’s successful navigation through the great recession of 2008, and the impact of rapid advancements in banking and personal-banking technology. Emmons, who started in banking as a commercial lender, directed the bank’s pivot to a business-lending focus. In that time, Gorham Savings Bank’s commercial portfolio has grown to more than $600 million from a fraction of that number. He also championed the creation of Gorham Savings Bank’s unique business competition, LaunchPad, which has awarded more than $200,000 in grant money to Maine’s small businesses.
Prior to joining Gorham Savings Bank, Chris was senior vice president, Commercial Lending, at TD Banknorth for seven years. He began his banking career in Portland with Maine National Bank in 1977. Chris earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Maine in 1976.
