People Pay FAQ

Q. What is People Pay?

A. People Pay is a quick and easy way to send and receive money securely using your Gorham Savings mobile banking app. If you have the recipient’s email address and/or mobile phone number, you’re set.

Q. How does People Pay work?

A. With an email address or mobile phone number, you can send money to almost anyone, anywhere in the U.S, whether it’s a child away at college, your niece who’s turning 12 or your friend who covered dinner and drinks last Saturday night. It’s as easy as making a few clicks on your phone.

Q. Are there any fees to use People Pay?

A. No, there are no fees for most transactions within People Pay. If you choose to send money directly to a PayPal account, fees apply. Standard message and data rates from your wireless carrier may apply as well.

Q. Are other services required to use People Pay?

A. Yes, you must be enrolled in Online Banking/Mobile Banking to use People Pay.

Q. How do I enroll?

A. Within Online Banking, hover over Payments, click on the People Pay link and follow the instructions to enroll. In Mobile Banking, tap the People Pay link then Get Started and follow the instructions to enroll. Your contacts – the recipients of the money you send – can be entered right away or added as needed. All it takes is a few minutes.

Q. Which of my Gorham Savings Bank accounts can I use with People Pay?

A. All Gorham Savings Bank checking accounts can be used to send money. This includes an HSA checking account that is used to pay for medical expenses.

Q. Do my contacts need to be enrolled in People Pay?

A. No, your contacts do not need to be enrolled in People Pay in order to receive a People Pay payment. We told you you could send money to almost anyone, right?

Q. Once I send money, when should my contact expect to receive it?

A. Depending on the delivery method you choose, it will take 1-3 business days. You can view a payment status in the Outgoing Payments tab. Delivery methods include:

  1.     Send to email address/mobile number with the contact choosing how they wish to receive the funds (to their bank or PayPal account)
  2.     Send to the contact’s bank account with the sender providing the bank routing number and account number
  3.     PayPal

Q. What if my contact doesn’t receive an email notification?

A. If you initiate a People Pay payment and the recipient does not receive an email notification, it may be because their email or phone number was entered incorrectly. Review the contact information and call the Customer Service Center at (207) 839-4796 for further assistance. We’ll be happy to help.

Q. If I send money to a contact and the recipient does not claim it, will it expire?

A. Yes, a payment will expire in 10 calendar days if left unclaimed.

Q. Can I send money to someone outside the United States?

A. No, People Pay does not support international transactions at this time.
