Forward with Funding FAQ

Q. What type of business is the right fit for Forward with Funding?

A.  Forward with Funding is designed for companies that have revenue, at least one employee, use an accounting software (i.e. QuickBooks), and plan to grow in the next 12 to 18 months.

Q. Can you describe the two-day program?

A. The program is a combination of hands-on guided exercises (in marketing, finance, business planning, and human resource management) combined with time for you to reflect, meet other entrepreneurs, and work on your strategic plan. The objective is to give you time to step away from day-to-day tasks to consider the future of the business, and then turn your thoughts into an actionable plan for the next 12 to 18 months, based on the financials and concepts from the exercises.

Q. What is the time commitment?

A. It’s a two-day weekend workshop held at SMCC in South Portland on Friday and Saturday. The class runs from 8:30am to 5:00pm with meals provided. You’ll also meet with instructors one-on-one before and after the class. Fill out the form to be considered for our next session.

Q. I’m not comfortable with finances and don’t have full financial statements right now.

A. The instructors have worked with entrepreneurs at all stages of development and financial understanding. They’ll help you utilize whatever information you have now to make better business decisions and effectively communicate with funders, key hires, and strategic partners.

Q. Can I bring my business partner?

A. Absolutely. We want you to come away from Forward with Funding with a strategic plan for growth, so your partner should be included!

Q. Do I need to be a Gorham Savings Bank customer to participate?

A. No, local small business owners are welcome to apply regardless of where they currently bank. The program will be offered to 15 entrepreneurs at similar stages of business development. But of course, if you’re ready to grow we’re ready to help you.
