Tax Season and Cybercriminals

Cybercriminals love tax season. The vast amounts of personal and financial information shared online during this time of year make it an ideal environment for them. These scammers use high pressure tactics in hopes that you will respond – a voicemail message claiming that the IRS is filing a lawsuit unless you call a number in Washington D.C. or a phony IRS phishing email.

Don’t be a victim of fraud. The IRS will not initiate contact with taxpayers by email, text messages or social media channels to request personal or financial information. Do not return that call, delete those emails and never give out personal information to anyone unless you have initiated the contact.
